MEAC: Graduation from a school accredited by Midwifery Education Accreditation Council

PEP: Portfolio Evaluation Process through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM)

PEP+: Portfolio Evaluation Process plus the Bridge Certificate through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM)

SEP: State Evaluation Process defined by the specific state

State Approval: The state midwifery advisory board or state department of health has the authority to approve other pathways.

PEP*: California requires completion of the Portfolio Evaluation Process and the State Challenge Process.

PEP**: Montana required completion of the Portfolio Evaluation Process and additional births.

PEP***: Washington required completion of the Portfolio Evaluation Process, additional clinical, and state exam.

PEP****: Wyoming requires completion of the Portfolio Evaluation Process, 5 years experience, and a license from another state.

There may be additional requirements for licensure above those in the educational requirements.
