New Tools, Real Impact: Mapping Data to Advance Midwifery Policy

In 2024, NACPM launched a major data initiative to support state and national advocacy through the power of interactive mapping. This platform brings together essential state-by-state information on midwifery policy, practice, and access — including a searchable database on community midwives’ access to life-saving medications, Medicaid coverage, board composition, licensing data, and more.

This work is already shaping real policy. States are requesting national standards to inform new legislation, and we’re building tools to meet the moment.

We need your input to take this work further. Our first nationwide survey focuses on restrictions related to breech, twin, and VBAC births, as well as newborn screening. Your responses will guide the next generation of interactive maps to improve access and advance equitable maternity care.
