Maternal mental illness and substance use during pregnancy are significant concerns, while uncontrolled high blood pressure poses risks for both birthing people and fetuses. As the largest public payer of births nationwide, Medicaid and CHIP programs play a vital role in enhancing care systems to address these challenges and improve maternal health outcomes.
