About NACPM

Who is NACPM?
The National Association of Certified Professional Midwives is the professional organization representing CPMs in the United States. Our mission includes strengthening the profession, advocating for supportive policies, and building equitable access to community-based midwifery care.
Who are CPMs?
CPMs are trained, credentialed primary maternity care providers who specialize in community-based care—particularly home and birth center births—providing prenatal, birth, postpartum, and newborn care in collaboration with other health professionals when needed.
Strategic Plan through 2027
The 2025-2027 NACPM Strategic Plan outlines the organization’s priorities for strengthening the CPM workforce, advancing supportive policy and systems integration, expanding access to community-based care, and building the data, leadership, and infrastructure needed to sustain community midwifery nationwide.
Equity in Birth and Midwifery
NACPM is committed to eliminating racial disparities in birth outcomes, dismantling systemic racism in perinatal care, and building a diverse midwifery workforce to ensure equitable access to safe, physiologic birth for all childbearing people.
