Joint Statement from NARM and NACPM

Regarding MEAC’s Withdrawal from U.S. Department of Education Recognition

The North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM) recently learned of the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council’s (MEAC’s) decision to withdraw from recognition by the U.S. Department of Education. Neither NARM nor NACPM participated in or had advance notice of that decision.

We understand that this development has raised questions for students, CPMs, schools, state regulators, and the broader midwifery community. NARM and NACPM are actively researching and analyzing the potential impact of MEAC’s decision, including implications for CPM eligibility pathways, state licensure, and midwifery education programs.

NARM and NACPM are committed to engaging with the midwifery community and other stakeholders to identify solutions and protect the integrity and accessibility of the CPM credential and the midwifery profession.

We will provide additional information as soon as it is available.
